Thoughts from our morning meditation - Will you choose peace?
Prayer of St.Francis
Make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred let me sow love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Spirit grant that I may
Never seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love with all my soul
For it is in giving that we receive-
And it's in pardoning that we are pardoned.
And it's in dying that we are born to eternal life
The Prayer of St Francis is close to my heart ...I grew up singing this, it is part of my daily prayer and we always sing this during our retreats and it does not matter what faith one follows, it’s universal and speaks to every soul because there is a deep wisdom in there.
We have been gathering as a community every week since end of March to connect to peace, find calm and to rest in our essence. We feel our human- ness, our beliefs , stories, thoughts, feelings but behind the illusion we are aware that we are the energy of love and being peaceful is how you feel when you connect to your essence. .
We’re living in unprecedented times, a global pandemic and great economic despair, everything is a trigger , a point of division and contention. But this can also lead to a breakthrough , poised to return to peace , to trust our guidance and our intuition, to be supported...
To remain peaceful in midst of all that is unfolding we can respond rather than react. Every moment a choice..That is empowering.
The words in the prayer..feeling loved; understood; hopeful; consoled; pardoned when necessary and having the ability to walk and live in the light. When others embrace us in this way, there is a feeling of nurturance and we can do that for each other.
By giving and receiving of these basic human offerings we can connect with the essence of being, in both the best and the worst of times.
There is so much information coming our way, everyone has an opinion, so many mixed opinions, huge changes unfolding but when we rest in our essence we can make the decision to move from peace , one small peaceful decision after another and there is a window of tolerance..Everyone’s opinion is right for them , everyone’s feeling is valid- choose Peace.
In midst of the chaos there is an underlying peace..connect to that daily.
Everyday there are windows of opportunities to share the spirit of peace and connectivity with one another, something we could say or do or merely offering a listening ear, a shoulder to lean on..
I do believe each one of us has the ability to become an instrument of peace adding value to the life of another, every day. No more is required than conscious awareness and the mindful use of the many moments in which it is possible to connect in this spirit of human-ness. Connect first to your peace and then be the instrument.
Will you chose peace... Om Shanti Shanti Shanti
